And it’s our CHOICE to LOVE that will HEAL U.S.

The Racial Lens

This lens is not an option for those whose skin is dark

It's simply life's experience

The reality is stark

When everything is racial, denial's not a choice

A lifetime of fatigue

Screams from a silent voice

The "lens" exists for others, intention is the need

Finding fertile ground and tending to the seed

The lens incorporated, constantly pointed out

Not a separate entity

Weaving it throughout

The lens needs to have ownership by allies for the plight

To bring us all some unity

To stoke collective light

Poem by Kim Leatherman (she/her).

Artwork by Anna Kreishman (they/them), age 12.
